PEORIA, Ill. – A portion of S. Western Avenue in Peoria was closed down Wednesday morning for a fire.
Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Hascall says crews responded to a home on S. Western, near Ann and Antoinette, around 8:25 a.m., finding heavy fire at the back of the home that had extended to the second floor.
Due to the extent of the fire, additional companies were called to the scene to assist with searching the home and controlling the fire.
No one was inside the home at the time of the fire. It took crews about 45 minutes to get the fire under control.
Hascall says the home was a total loss, with $50,000 damage.
No injuries were reported.
Fire investigators say arson appears to be the cause of the blaze.
