PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police arrested a Peoria Heights man Friday night after he allegedly tried to run off after a traffic stop, carrying drugs.
PPD says the suspect, 21-year-old Jyvonnie Williams, Jr., faces charges of manufacturing and delivering cannabis with intent, as well as obstructing police.
Williams Jr. was taken into custody around 8:20 p.m. Friday, after a traffic stop at William Kumpf and Romeo B. Garrett Avenue.
When officers approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Williams Jr., a passenger in the vehicle, jumped out and ran off, leading police on a short chase.
When officers searched Williams Jr.’s backpack, they found several bags of cannabis.
He was taken to the Peoria County Jail, later released on a notice to appear in court.
