PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria woman will spend more than a decade in federal prison after pleading guilty to drug charges.
41-year-old Crystal Bennett was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in the Bureau of Prisons for attempted possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine.
Prosecutors say Bennett was arrested twice in 2021. She was first arrested in May after she attempted to retrieve a package from a commercial shipping company store in East Peoria.
Bennett claimed the package was for her boyfriend, but law enforcement was called after suspicious behavior, and found the package contained more than 50 grams of methamphetamine. Several drug ledgers were found during a search of her vehicle.
Bennett was arrested again in September of 2021 after reportedly being found in possession of more than 250 grams of methamphetamine, a loaded gun that was reported stolen, and more than $2,400.
An indictment was filed against Bennett in October of 2022, and was arrested in January 2023. She was released on bond in May of 2023, but the bond was revoked a week later. Bennett eventually pleaded guilty in September of 2023.
