EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Illinois State Police troopers are credited with saving the life of a motorist involved in a fiery crash.
It happened early Saturday morning when a car traveling east on Cedar Street in East Peoria drove through a construction zone where there is no pavement, hit a guardrail and caught fire.
East Peoria Assistant Fire Chief Ronnie Marmitt says two state troopers acted quickly to get the lone occupant out of the car and East Peoria firefighters put out the fire.
The troopers, who have not been identified, received minor injuries. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The condition of the driver is unknown.
“Both troopers exhibited exceptional bravery in the face of danger, risking their own lives to save another,” Marmitt said in a news release. “Their selfless actions undoubtedly prevented a potentially fatal outcome.”
