PEKIN, Ill. – A Tazewell County judge has ordered a man accused of pointing a gun at a police officer to remain in jail.
Brian Childers, 45, appeared in court Thursday for a pretrial detention hearing. 25 News reports the judge ruled Childers to be a danger to the community and a flight risk, and to have him detained until trial.
Childers allegedly pointed a gun at a Peoria Police officer during an attempted traffic stop in South Peoria the morning of March 18th. He was arrested later that day in East Peoria.
The next day, Childers was released with an ankle monitor as part of the state’s Pretrial Fairness Act, with a judge ruling he be released due to a lack of a criminal history. Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria blasted the decision at a press conference the following day.
Childers was arrested again this past Friday by Peoria Police on a Tazewell County warrant on charges of Armed Violence and two counts of Possession of Methamphetamine.
His next appearance in court is April 11th for an arraignment hearing.
